04/09/2012 (Fars  News Agency-Iran): Head of Afghanistan's Railway Organization Abdolbari Sediqi said construction of infrastructures, the railway bed and its related installations was done last year. 
He said that Iran's Tehran Gostar Company, which is in charge of the construction of the second phase of the project in Afghanistan, has announced that it is through with laying the rail line in Iran and will finish laying the rail line in Afghanistan in the next two weeks..

Instead, the Ministry plans to shortly float a fresh tender for the appointment of a consultant to undertake the ‘preliminary design’ of the 1,061-kilometre rail network. Massive railway investment in MENA region

25/09/2012 (Albawaba Business - Jordan): A project rail boom within the transport sector in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) is expected to materialise in the next three years as the region allocates more than $250 billion worth of investments in various rail projects.

The region has one of the lowest density rail networks in the world, with just under 34,000km of track over a landmass of 15 million square kilometre, said a press release.
