Oman tenders nine GCC rail network freight yards

Alstom and Adif sign an agreement to develop the technology for a third rail signaling system

14/03/2013 (Alstom News - France); Alstom and Adif - the Spanish railway infrastructure manager - signed an agreement to develop a new third rail signaling system. The project is part of a framework agreement signed by both actors on November 2012 to carry out R&D projects at Adif's Railway Technology Center in Málaga.

The 5-year agreement also covers mixed gauge railway operations - as well as shared expertise and the exchange of information on scientific activities. The partnership aims to develop innovative, value-added solutions based on this signaling system that can later be sold in the domestic and foreign markets...

 

Graft seen in Saudi railway deals

14/03/2013 (Trade Arabia - Saudi Arabia):Saudi Arabia's National Anti-Corruption Commission (Nazaha) has detected corrupt practices in relation to three Saudi Railways Organization contracts worth more than 500 million riyals ($133 million), said a report.
Nazaha has been referred the case to the Saudi Control and Investigation Board for further investigation, an Arab News report said citing local newspaper.
The contracts involved safety systems for the railway network, which are yet to been installed. The delay has led to a number of accidents during the past few years, the report said...

Etihad Rail board inspects UAE railway's progress

14/03/2013 (ConstructionWeekOnline - SA):Etihad Rail board members have completed an inspection of the progress the UAE rail project is making, following a site visit to a section of the railway in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi.

The inspection, led by HE Nasser Alsowaidi, chairman of Etihad Rail, encompassed a visit to a sleeper factory in Mirfa, inspection of recently arrived wagons, witnessing the process of laying sleepers and tracks, before a final stop at the trial sand mitigation site, which enables better understanding of windblown sand behaviour and its effect on the railway...

UAE will have its first national-network train by end of this year

14/03/2013 (Emirates 24/7 - UAE): Etihad Rail – the developer and operator of the UAE’s national railway network – announced today that it has secured financing of $1.28 billion (Dh4.7 billion) for Stage One of its railway project, which comprises the route from Shah and Habshan to Ruwais.

The chief executive of Etihad Rail confirmed in a media statement this morning that the locomotives for the first train are scheduled to arrive within the first quarter of 2013, and that Etihad Rail is on track to operating its first train this year itself...

14/03/2013 (Al Shorfa - Jordan): "A high-ranking Iraqi delegation from the transportation and municipalities ministries" signed the document in Baghdad with representatives of Romanian railcar producer Astra, said Salam al-Quraishi, economic advisor to the Iraqi government.

The Iraqi-Romanian company, which will specialise in producing trains, will be based in al-Samawa, southern Iraq, he said...

Four international banks to fund Turkey's railways projects

14/03/2013 (World Bulletin - Turkey): Turkish State Railways (TCDD) plans to receive 900 million Turkish lira (TL) loan from four international banks for the railways investments it projected for 2013.

TCDD said it estimated to spend 20.3 billion TL between 2013 and 2015 for rail vehicles' repair and manufacturing and rail and sea transportation and 19.5 TL of it will be spent only for railway transportation. For that purpose, TCDD will get 900 million TL loan from four international banks for the railway investments in 2013...
